Canal Clear-up – 27th May 2023

Saturday 27th May has been chosen as the Day on which the Rotary Club of Banbury will play our part in District 1090’s ‘Plastic Blitz’ and Waterways Cleanup.
The Event will start at 9am prompt in Bridge Street Park and end by 12.30pm.

We shall be working in partnership with Banbury Town Council, Cherwell District Council and two other local environmental partners.

Following Plastic Soup Ambassador Phil Fletcher’s enlightening and encouraging recent talk all members are invited to volunteer for 27th May , along with any volunteer partners and family members, to help clean up the two watercourses (River Cherwell and Oxford Canal) and their banks as they run into, through, and out of Banbury.

There will be sign up sheets at lunchtime meetings  for volunteers. (We need to know numbers to order the required number of gloves, litter pickers and collecting binbags for the day from CDC.)

You can also sign up using the online form here. It should literally only less than a minute.

Volunteers will be asked to give a minimum of one hour’s time during the 3 hour Blitz.

Tasks with more detailed times  and areas to be covered, and necessary equipment, will be clarified and provided in mid-May and again on the morning of the event.

Further details will be circulated following a meeting of the plastic blitz steering group on Monday 24th April.

Many thanks in anticipation of a good turnout – Fred Riches
