Talk: Social Eyes- Dec 2022

On 25 November 2022 Banbury Rotary Club were privileged to receive as guest speakers at their lunchtime meeting two members of Banbury Social Eyes which is a newly formed group for the visually impaired exclusively in the Banbury area.

It currently has 22 members. Formed in 2021 by Janet Johnson the main speaker, it has gradually grown from an initial membership of 16 to its present 22. The organisation basically provides social events for the visually impaired plus full transport arrangements for each event.

They have held walking events, bbqs, ten pin bowling, canal boat trips and educational activities for its members mainly based on assisted technology. They are also planning abseiling events and a controlled driving experience.

Aimee the second speaker is a member of the group and she highlighted the difference the group has made to her life. Previously she had been reluctant to leave her house whereas now she participates in every event where she can and enjoys meeting the other members.

Janet expressed her thanks to Banbury Rotary Club for its support of the group and thanked them for a recent £200 donation which will be used towards the members Christmas Lunch.
The presentation concluded with the passing around of special adapted glasses to demonstrate the different types of visual impairment which it’s members have to deal with on a daily basis.
