Tim’s Thames Trek

Tim’s “Thames Path” Sponsored Walk.

Later this summer, Tim Bryce, an octogenarian member of the Rotary Club of Banbury, plans to Walk the Thames Path from Lechlade to Teddington in London.(125 miles). Lechlade is not only where Tim was brought up as a young child and first introduced to Boating, but the point where the infant River becomes navigable. Beyond a large lock at Teddington the mighty River becomes Tidal and seems the suitable point to finish the mammoth walk.  The idea is that a friend, Dave, will navigate Tim’s Narrowboat, while Tim does his walking. In this way the distance walked on any one day can be truly flexible, and a bed for the night, as well as a mobile kitchen will always be to hand. Tim recognizes that age imposes its own limitations, so is not setting any time schedules but he still aims to walk on a daily basis.

Tim has for quite some years wanted to Walk the full length of this the most attractive of rivers. It rises in the beautiful Cotswold Hills, passing through the quintessentially English landscape. It flows on through many pretty villages, reaches the City of Oxford, and beyond finds many more Towns and Places of note before getting to London, the greatest City in the world which only grew and established its might because of the famous River. In recent months Tim has been working on his fitness and feels if he is ever to achieve his ambition, it is “Now or never”

Tim feels that it is only right that he should achieve more than simply satisfying an ambition.  He is looking to find Sponsors to support the work of his Rotary Club’s International Committee, and in particular an ongoing project in Sierra Leone, establish by Alan Wolstencroft, this year’s Club President, for developing Education – helping to finance, classrooms, equipment, sanitation and clean water. More information on the project can be found on www.alanwooly.co.ukwww.banburyrotaryclub.org.uk
