On Thursday 7th August, Banbury Rotary Club members and their guests enjoyed an evening at the Whately Hall Hotel which included an inspirational talk from Sam Game, who created and runs the charity ‘Standing in the Gap’ - aptly named, because they stand in the gap between an underfunded NHS and children with emotional challenges & their parents.
Concentrating on 4 –11year-olds, Standing in the Gap has developed a range of programmes delivering child mental health support through facilitated talks, workshops, online resources and bespoke one to one support. These programs include Managing Anxiety, Managing Anger and Managing Grief along with programs for preventative support in educational transitions include Starting Primary School and Preparing for Secondary School.
Giving additional support, Sam says their Lifeboat Centre (TLC) uses the same principles as a lifeboat. “We come alongside and support you when you are struggling and where there is a problem. We work with you to get back to firm ground by providing one-to-one bespoke support often working with both the parent and the child together”
