Our speaker today was Simon Lawton, who visited us 18 months ago to talk about bee keeping. This time the subject was rodent control, a problem which most householders will have need for at some time or another.

I'd never considered how many rodent or insect infestations could be predicted so accurately to different seasons,  but Simon took us through the year, month by month, explaining what to expect when, and how he is able to deal with them. It was interesting that in many cases (e.g. squirrels, foxes and rabbits etc.) if practicable, he will try to capture and relocate them in the wild, rather than destroy them.

And who would have thought that wasps, those annoying creatures in our gardens, when we want to enjoy afternoon tea, are such good friends to the gardener, clearing up so many harmful insects and garden waste.

After the talk, Simon fielded questions from the Rotarians present. This strayed onto the other side of his work where he helps various companies fulfill their environmental, social and governance obligations by facilitating them to keep and maintain bee-hives.

Getting back to pests - there's seemed little doubt that if you have an infestation of rodents, or insects, Simon's your man!
