John Davies told us about how his involvement in stamp collecting when his children became interested got a bit out of hand and ended up with him having a collection exhibited at several international exhibitions!

Our speaker’s talk on 9th October was entitled “My Philatelic Journey”.

He told us about how - through encouraging his children in their hobby, he started running a school stamp club and it grew from there!

He developed a children’s organisation called Stamp Active which attracted members countrywide and he’s still involved in its administration today.

However, all this involvement sparked his own interest in the subject, and he admits that it became “a hobby that got out of hand”.

John’s interest is more associated with the history and development of the postal system, and he has amassed an extensive collection of historical documents, as well as early stamps and proofs, which he brought to our meeting.

He has exhibited his collection at several international exhibitions, and the photograph alongside shows him signing the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists.
