Rotary is a “Service Club” - which means exactly what it says. We try and provide a service to the community, local, national and international.

Saturday 2nd August, saw one of the many bits of service we engage in: to marshall the parking of over 400 cars at the Dassett Country Show.

Some Rotary Service projects are huge - like the commitment to eradicate polio from the world: a task that has been 99.9% achieved but for challenges in Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan where annually a handfull of cases persist - a handfull too many!

Other projects are more one-off challenges like providing kits to ensure availability of clean water in emergencies such as earthquakes. This is done by supporting organisations such as Aquabox.

We also put on some pretty impressive events locally - like the Rotary Children Singing for Children concerts where typically 20 plus local schools perform. annually.  Concerts that have raised just shy of £100,000 all of which has gone to children's charities - most of them local.

However, much of our work is unseen: “oiling the wheels” type contributions that allow good things to happen locally! Marshalling the parking of over 400 cars at the Dassett Show is one of many such activities: something that's not going to go down in history but without which another enjoyable  local event would be difficult to stage.

If you would like to help your local community then get in touch with us either via a Rotary member or by emailing secretary@banburyrotaryclub.org.uk  We're a friendly bunch and we're always looking for people willing to roll their sleeves up and get stuck into one of the many projects that we run.
