At Club on Fri 27 Feb members discussed whether the introduction of Working Groups in replacement for the normal Rotary Club Committee structure had achieved its original objective. A working group structure had been adopted in RY 24/25 in acknowledgement of the reduced attendance levels and individual participation at committee meetings since COVID, noting that big events were already organised outside the routine committee structure.
Working groups had generally worked, but some members felt that the two-way flow of club information normally achieved through committee work had suffered. In addition, working groups focussed on only that event it was set up to organise, at the expense of forward planning or consideration of other potential events. A lot of general business was now also discussed at routine Tuesday coffee mornings which overcame these difficulties to some extent, but only to those few members who attended.
Overall, it was felt that an immediate return to a more general committee structure was in order, but that a limited number of main committees would better suit the smaller size of our current club membership. It was also suggested that committee work could be undertaken either before or after a normal club meeting.
Members can see which committees they have been allocated (which is the same they had already been allocated to as working groups) via their ClubRunner mobile app (look under My Commitments), or via or via the link Committee Structure
