May I wish you and your family a very Happy Easter. Spring is here and the garden and long walks beckon: time to shed our winter blues and get out there!
Emma Orton spoke at the Club Frugal Meal on Thu 26 Mar 26 to introduce Assisted Reading for Children (ARCh), that helps pupils in Oxfordshire who struggle with their reading. They send trained volunteers into primary schools and aim to inspire in the children we see a love of reading. This will enhance their lives and improve their life chances.
Friday 20th March saw a visit by Dawn Hodson, from Reducing the Risk, to our meeting to receive a total of £650 from the Autumn Concert surplus and certain supermarket collections. She gave an update on the charity - and in particular the work they are doing with local schools.
She was accompanied by Sally Scott, who is Oxfordshire's Deputy Lieutenant: someone who is playing a lead role in actively supporting the Reducing the Risk project.
Joan Bond gave a short talk to members at the Speaker Meeting on Thu 12 March to share the very personal story of her extensive and heart-felt search for her unknown parents. After much work, and some luck, she was eventually able to make contact and form a close relationship with her maternal family who originally lived in Persia but some members of whom came to the UK during WW2.
In November 2025 The Rotary Club of Banbury raised £7800 for childrens good causes through it's “Children Singing for Children” concerts.
It may seem a bit early to be planning for November 2026 - but in organising four evenings of concerts with around 600 children there's a lot to get sorted!
If you are a local primary school and haven't yet signed up - we recommend you do so ASAP and certainly befote 1st May 2026.
We can only accommodate maximum of 24 schools and in the first 4 days of “sign-up” we've already got 16.
It's first come: first served so read on to make sure your school doesn't miss out on this truly uplifting event.
Join a few of your Rotary colleagues, partners and friends every Tuesday morning 1030-1130 at a very informal coffee meeting for chat and banter over tea and coffee (and a handy place to sort things out!). Do feel free to bring biscuits and cake to share if you are feeling particularly generous, but this is not compulsory - your presence is the important thing!
The surplus from the refreshment payments is donated to the Rotary Foundation Fund.
Members, partners and friends are invited to the Whately Hall Hotel for an evening social of fellowship and conversation. You will also have the chance to hear David Stainsby, our newest Rotarian, talk about his life.

The Club Council generally meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month, at 6.30pm at Banbury Cricket Club. It is open to any Club Member to attend, but prior notice should be given to the President or Secretary if possible.
The routine meeting scheduled for Thu 23 Apr is cancelled as it conflicts with a major Inner Wheel Charity event that evening. So we will hold an informal meeting at the Cricket Club on Fri lunchtime. This will be an opportunity for interested members to get together on an ad-hoc social gathering. Bring your own food. No need to book - just turn up for a chat.
